The walled city
Restored colonial houses turned into small hotels, courtyards with plunge pools, and the best restaurants a two minute walk from your door. This is what people picture when they picture Cartagena.
It is also the most expensive part of the city and the rooms are often smaller than the photos suggest. Ask for a courtyard facing room if you are a light sleeper, the street side gets music.
Getsemaní
Same walking distance to everything, half the price, twice the street life. Murals, plazas, music and a crowd that skews younger.
Pick your street carefully. One block can be calm and the next can be a bar until 3am. We know which is which.
Bocagrande
High rise apartments with ocean views, gyms and pools, plus supermarkets and gyms downstairs. Practical, modern, and popular with groups who want space.
The beach here is average and the area lacks charm, but you are ten minutes from the old city by car and getting far more square meters for the money.
Manga and Castillogrande
Quieter residential pockets favored by people staying longer or traveling with kids. Good local restaurants, marina access in Manga, almost no tourists.
You will be driving everywhere, which is fine with a car on call.
Barú and island villas
If the trip is really about the water, skip the city hotel and take a villa on Barú with a pool, a cook and a boat at the dock. An hour from the airport by road, less by tender.
This is the right call for celebrations, bachelor weekends and families who want one base rather than a daily commute to a beach.
