Guatapé is the day trip everyone books and most people get wrong. Group buses leave at dawn, stop for photos you did not ask for, and put you on the rock at the busiest hour of the day. How long is the drive to Guatapé from Medellín?

About two hours each way from El Poblado, longer on Sunday afternoons when Medellín families are driving back. We build the return around traffic so you are not sitting in it.

Do I have to climb the 740 steps?

No. Plenty of guests skip the rock and spend the time on the water or in town. If you do climb, take it slowly, the altitude is mild but the stairs are steep.
