Guatapé and El Peñol Private Day Tour

The 740 steps, the emerald reservoir and the painted town, run privately so you skip the tourist bus rhythm.

Overview

Guatapé is the day trip everyone books and most people get wrong. Group buses leave at dawn, stop for photos you did not ask for, and put you on the rock at the busiest hour of the day. We run it the other way: a private SUV from your door, a start time chosen around the crowds, and a guide who knows which side of the town is worth your afternoon.

You climb El Peñol when the line is short, take a private boat across the reservoir, and eat somewhere on the water rather than in the bus-tour cafeteria. The zócalos of Guatapé, the painted panels along the base of every building, get explained properly instead of photographed blindly.

The whole day is yours to shape. Add paragliding over the water, jet skis, or a stop at a lakeside finca for drinks before the drive home.

Frequently asked

Questions about this experience

Honest answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, ask us directly and we'll come back the same day.

How long is the drive to Guatapé from Medellín?

About two hours each way from El Poblado, longer on Sunday afternoons when Medellín families are driving back. We build the return around traffic so you are not sitting in it.

Do I have to climb the 740 steps?

No. Plenty of guests skip the rock and spend the time on the water or in town. If you do climb, take it slowly, the altitude is mild but the stairs are steep.

Can we add paragliding or jet skis to the day?

Yes. Both operate near the reservoir and slot into the same day. Tell us at booking so we hold the time and the equipment.
