Santa Elena Silletero Flower Farm Visit

The families behind the Flower Festival, on the farms where the silletas are actually built.

Overview

The silleteros of Santa Elena carry enormous flower arrangements on their backs through Medellín every August, and the families have done it for generations. Visiting the farms outside festival season is quieter and far more interesting.

You walk the greenhouses, see how a silleta is built, eat lunch with the family, and drive back down through the cloud forest. It is the warmest few hours on our list.
